Suzuki is relatively new to the hybrid game, but the Japanese automaker plans on showing a plug-in hybrid version of its compact Swift hatchback at the 2009 Tokyo motor show.

Details are slim at this point, but we do know the Swift plug-in hybrid will pair a small-displacement gasoline engine with an electric motor. Electricity will be stored in lithium-ion batteries mounted underneath the center console. Suzuki has also fitted lightweight mesh seats, aerodynamic wheels, and tires with low-rolling resistance on the concept.

We hope to learn more about the Swift plug-in -- along with Suzuki's other hybrid aspirations -- come October 21. Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest news from the 2009 Tokyo motor show.
