The 2009 Detroit auto show couldn't have been timed worse for the struggling city.  With the economic downturn in full swing, many automakers decided to pass on showing vehicles off in Detroit.  Several brands skipped out, including Nissan/Infiniti, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Ferrari, and, for the second year, Porsche.

"Every space on the main floor is full," show chairman Doug Fox told the Detroit News about the 2010 show. There are a few possible returning exhibits though; specific names could not be released due to ongoing negotiations.

Porsche is a definite possibility for the 2010 Detroit Show, because it has been disappointed in the lack of coverage generated by its presence at the L.A. show.

In final negotiations with Roger Penske, Saturn will have a display stand separate from GM.

Having just shown its Vision EfficientDynamics Concept and 5-series Gran Tourismo at Frankfurt, BMW is committed to the NAIAS. BMW "is looking forward to coming to the show with some new things and some surprises," said Tom Kowaleski, vice president of communications. The German automaker is known for its extravagant displays.

New for 2010, Electric Avenue will showcase electric-powered vehicles.
