At a meeting held earlier today with the company's top dealers, Mazda confirmed the subcompact Mazda 2 is headed to the U.S.

"It will be stylish, fun to drive, and a heck of a value.  In short, it will be Zoom-Zoom," Mazda CEO Jim O'Sullivan told the crowd.

The new Mazda shares a platform with the 2011 Ford Fiesta, further crowding the b-segment.  Competitors will include the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, and Chevy Aveo.

The Mazda 2 is slated to go on sale in late 2010, along with the Canada launch. We will see the U.S.-spec 2 in person this December at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Having won the 2008 World car of the year, and having so far impressed our editors as our only European Four Seasons car, the 2 is sure not to disappoint.
