The Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance -- a partnership between Chrysler, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi to build engines in Dundee, Michigan -- is no more. Chrysler announced this morning that the facility is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC.

In a statement released this morning, Chrysler revealed that both Mitsubishi and Hyundai have sold their shares to Chrysler, allowing the firm to take complete control of the Dundee operation. Both Hyundai and Mitsubishi manufacture the so-called “global engines” at facilities outside the United States, and are expected to continue doing so for some time.

Engines born out of the GEMA partnership include most 4-cylinder engines used by all three automakers. GEMA engines also appear in turbocharged guise in the likes of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, Hyundai Genesis 2.0T, and the late Dodge Caliber SRT-4.
