2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid 4Matic Launches Today for Lease Only

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid -- the company’s first vehicle using the 2-Mode hybrid system co-developed with GM, BMW, and Chrysler -- launches today. Interestingly, the hybrid is available to consumers via lease plans, but isn’t available for purchase.

Those looking to acquire the new Mercedes hybrid will have to select either a 60-month or a 36-month lease. Either option can prove pricey, with the 36-month lease coming in at $659 per month, and the 60-month program commanding a monthly payment of $549.

Although the initial deposit isn’t specified, leasing the ML450 Hybrid may be less expensive than leasing the other fuel-efficient ML, the ML350 BlueTec diesel. Using Mercedes’ lease calculator, a 36-month lease on a base ML350 BlueTec costs $656 per month, with approximately $5048 down. A 60-month lease, using the same down payment, will cost $733 a month.

The ML450 Hybrid combines Mercedes’ 3.5-liter V-6 (running on the Atkinson cycle) with two electric motors to produce a combined output of 335 hp and 381 lb-ft of torque. The sophisticated transmission allows the SUV to be powered solely by the electric motor at speeds up to 34 mph, and helps the ML450 Hybrid achieve a fuel economy rating of 21/24 mpg (city/highway).
