Fighting to survive after high fuel prices corralled consumers into small cars and instigated a media backlash against the Hummer brand, as well as an economic recession, Lynch Hummer owner Jim Lynch decided he needed to sell something else besides Hummers to stay in business. For Lynch, that something else was guns.
"Well, a lot of our Hummer owners were gun owners, already," explained Lynch. "So we had a very favorable response. Didn't have enough business to keep this big, beautiful building going with the decline, so we decided we needed to do something else. And the guns fit in with our customer base... a lot of sportsmen, a lot of outdoorsmen, and they've loved it."
Lynch said all that was required was a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in order to sell the guns. Several members of his staff had worked in the gun business previously; one of his employees is even a retired police officer. Customers say the prices are comparable to other shops in the area, and the available selection includes hard-to-find guns and ammunition.
