Chrysler Ends Lifetime Powertrain Warranty

If you were hoping for a lifetime powertrain warranty on your new Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep, you’re out of luck. The Chrysler Group has abandoned that plan, adopting a new, transferable five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

According to Automotive News, the decision to drop the lifetime powertrain warranty came after discussion with Chrysler Group’s dealership council. Owners reportedly found the ability to transfer the warranty to a new owner without penalty an appealing feature.

“The issue of transferability was something people found very appealing,” said Chrysler spokesman Rick Deneau. “[The lifetime powertrain warranty] wasn’t as valuable to consumers as we might have hoped.”

In addition to changing the warranty coverage, the new five-year, 100,000-mile warranty broadens the vehicles covered. The previous warranty didn’t cover any SRT vehicles, but the new plan covers the entire performance range, including the almighty Viper. Dodge Sprinters and diesel-powered Rams, however, are exempt from the warranty.
