Hennessey Hyundai Genesis Carbon Coupe Blasts into SEMA

Think Hennessey's only having fun with Corvettes and Camaros these days? Think again. The Texas-based tuner is bringing a tricked-out Hyundai Genesis Coupe -- called the Carbon Coupe -- to the 2009 SEMA show.

Built as part of Hennessey's Tuner School (a 14-week program that teaches the ins and outs of performance tuning), the Carbon Coupe earns its name from the carbon fiber body wrap it wears. We're more interested, however, in the powertrain modifications. Hennessey claims the car pumps out 500 hp, but reveals little about the engine apart from mentioning it's turbocharged. This could signal a modified form of the turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 found in the Genesis Coupe 2.0T, but given Hennessey's record of modifying anything, we wouldn't put turbocharging the 3.8-liter V-6 past the firm.

Still, we're told the Carbon Coupe can fly down the quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds, and sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.9. Hennessey expects the power output to be in the neighborhood of 500 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque -- enough to turn a few heads at the SEMA show and the track alike.
