Along with the hybrid M sedan announced earlier this month, the new EV will help Infiniti carry some green cachet of its own. (Previous eco-friendly vehicles were developed for Nissan, not its flagship brand.) Ghosn announced at the Tokyo motor show that the Infiniti EV will be a stylish, compact, high-performance, four-seat luxury car, and will hold true to Infiniti’s mantra of “inspired performance.”
Nissan also announced it will form a joint venture with a Japanese trading house, Sumitomo Corporation, for the recycling of electric car batteries. Presently, the companies still need to finalize the plan (including financing the venture) but hope the program launches in line with a potential surge in consumer demand for battery-powered electric vehicles.
