Canadian auto supplier Magna International is reportedly set to move into part of Chrysler's former headquarters outside of Detroit, where it will produce automotive seating parts for both Chrysler and General Motors.

Chrysler's former world headquarters, located in Highland Park, Michigan, has been mostly vacant since Chrysler abandoned it nearly two decades ago. The automaker occupied the site from 1925 to 1992, when it moved in stages to its current Auburn Hills facility. According to the Detroit Free Press, the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) is set to approve tax incentives today that will clear the way for Magna to take over the facility.

Wayne County executive Robert Ficano says he has been talking with Magna founder and chairman Frank Stronach about the Canadian supplier locating a manufacturing or research facility in the county since 2004. Ficano's staff showed the Magna 28 sites within Wayne County, and the supplier also looked at locations in Oakland and Macomb counties, as well as in Canada.

Magna will spend about $18 million to occupy a 200,000-square-foot building at the site, and will employ 400 people. Magna already employs about 4900 people at 30 facilities across Michigan.
