Saturn 2-Mode Hybrid Powertrain to Debut in Forthcoming Buick CUV?

Green mongers were disappointed with GM when the automaker announced that its Saturn Vue two-mode plug-in hybrid would be killed.  GM had announced that it planned to use the two-mode powertrain in another vehicle, but we've had no clues as to which of GM's remaining brands - Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC - would receive the hybrid. Until now.

GM-Volt.com is reporting that Buick will be the lucky recipient of GM's two-mode plug-in hybrid powertrain.  Speculation was pointing to GMC or Chevrolet to receive the technology, as the all-new GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox both share the Theta platform on which the Saturn Vue is built.

During an interview with Ed Welburn, GM's vice president of design, CBS aired footage revealing a new small crossover for Buick (pictured).  Although GM has not announced any new GM crossovers, the vehicle obviously takes strong styling cues from Buick's current hit CUV, the Enclave.  GM-Volt.com says the CUV will share the Theta platform, making it adequate for the two-mode hybrid system.

Speculation says the new crossover will debut in 2011.  The Saturn Vue two-mode plug-in hybrid was scheduled to debut late this year.
