Although it has long been a loosely kept secret, Honda has confirmed today it plans on pushing the CR-Z sports hybrid into production by 2010.

Takanobu Ito, Honda's new CEO, announced today that the CR-Z would reach Japanese dealers this February. Europeans will likely see the sports coupe by the end of 2009, but we've received no official word on when the car will launch in North America.

First shown as a concept at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show, the CR-Z places Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid powertrain into a compact sports coupe that bears a striking resemblance to the early Honda CR-X.

Honda has released little technical information on the production car, but has confirmed the car will still be a hybrid, sporting "advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all, while reducing the car's environmental footprint."
