Volvo Introduces 2010 XC60 R-Design

Volvo’s 2010 XC60 is an attractive crossover to begin with, but in an effort to make it sportier, it’s added a new R-Design model.

Usually when a Volvo model receives an “R” designation, it means the model is meant to be a sportier model. However, the XC60 receives an “R-Design” designation, meaning it’s built more for show than for go—much like Chrysler’s SRT-Design models. It does, however, receive a stiffer chassis and more direct steering.

The XC60 R-Design model receives numerous visual upgrades to give the XC60 a sportier appearance. To start, the side skirts and front and rear fascias are now body color, giving a slick monochromatic look, and making the crossover seem lower to the ground.

In addition, the side mirrors and exterior trim (including the side sills, grille accents, and tailgate molding) sport a matte metal finish. XC60 R-Design models also receive polished 18-inch aluminum wheels as standard equipment (20-inch units are optional).

Inside, the R-Design model adds aluminum trim on the center console, door moldings, brake and accelerator pedals, and the steering wheel. A two-tone interior in either beige or black is standard, as are a pair of “sport” bucket seats in front.

Volvo hasn’t announced pricing for the XC60 R-Design, but the model should arrive in Volvo dealers nationwide in the next few months.
