Four Versions of Fiat 500 For North America

We’ve known Fiat’s 500 would come to North America by the end of next year, but Fiat officials now claim the firm will bring four versions of the car to the U.S.

Fiat designer Roberto Giolito told Automotive News that four variants of the 500 are destined for North America. In addition to the base hatchback and the new 500C convertible, Fiat also plans on bringing the sporty Abarth model and a forthcoming station wagon.

We’re hoping Fiat sees fit to offer the Abarth 500 esse-esse kit through dealers. The aftermarket kit adds more power to the little 500--a base Abarth pumps out 135 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque from its 1.4-liter turbocharged I-4, but the esse-esse model ekes out 158 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque.

Fiat hasn’t yet revealed the station wagon (we’ll likely see it at a European auto show next year), but Automotive News claims the wagon, patterned after the 500 Giardiniera of the 1960s, will have its wheelbase stretched 3.1 inches, granting rear-seat passengers additional space.

Regardless of the model and trim, all 500s destined for North America will likely be built in Chrysler’s assembly plant in Toluca, Mexico.
