Automotive News reports that Penske met in Paris with Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn to iron out details of a possible deal, citing sources familiar with the talks. Renault owns 80.1 percent of Renault Samsung.
Samsung makes four models (the SM3 sedan is pictured), all based on Nissan platforms, but it is unknown which vehicles would be offered through Saturn. Also unknown is whether the vehicles will simply be rebadged Samsungs, or re-engineered models.
Automotive News also says that Penske only needs about 250 Saturn dealerships to sell Samsung vehicles in the U.S. As of May 1, Saturn had about 380 stores. Penske recently hired Chrysler's former Co-President, Tom LaSorda, as a consultant on his potential Saturn pitch. Two Michigan dealers, David Fischer and Joe Serra, also are helping Penske.
