Alfa Romeo confirmed that it was preparing a high-powered version Mito back in June. Now, word on the street is the Alfa Romeo Mito GTA will be unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The hot hatch is expected to compete with the Mini Cooper JCW. The GTA aims to outperform the Mini with its turbocharged 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that will produce 240 horsepower. The agile Alfa will also benefit from weight reduction achieved through the use of carbon fiber and aluminum.

Sources say the GTA will be sharper looking than the current car. It will presumably sit lower, wear a more aggressive body kit, have larger wheels and offer new color schemes.

Now that Chrysler has partnered with Fiat, Alfa's parent company, perhaps we are one step closer to seeing the brand's return to the U.S. with a mass production model. If so, we'd say a hot hatch like the Mito GTA is a good place to start.
