In addition to the production version of its luxury plug-in hybrid, the Karma, Fisker Automotive will also debut a new concept this year at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, it said in a press release today. Dubbed the Fisker Karma S (with rumors floating around that 'S' stands for Sunset), the concept will be powered by the same Q-Drive powertrain that powers the production Karma.
Developed in cooperation with Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker, Q-Drive is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. With Q-Drive, the Karma can travel fifty miles in all-electric mode, and with its two electric motors generates 408 horsepower. After fifty miles, the Karma operates like a normal hybrid vehicle, using a gasoline engine to turn a generator that charges the lithium-ion battery. The Karma has a base price of $87,900. Fisker is sold-out of the Fisker Karma until mid-2010.
According to the press release, CEO Henrik Fisker will announce the details of the Karma S during the Fisker Automotive press conference on January 12.
