Move Over Versa - 2009 Hyundai Accent Now Cheapest New Car

Following on the heels of Nissan's announcement of the $10,685 2009 Nissan Versa 1.6 Base (destination charges included), Hyundai has nabbed the cheapest American car title, announcing new pricing for the 2009 Hyundai Accent GS 3-Door.  The GS 3-Door will now start at just $10,665, including destination charges.  This new price undercuts the Versa 1.6 Base by $20, while simultaneously carrying over all standard equipment from last year's model.

The $9,970 version of the 2009 Hyundai Accent GS 3-Door comes standard with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine good for 110 horsepower, a five-speed manual transmission, and such amenities as side and side-impact airbags, a six-way adjustable driver seat, a rear spoiler, and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback.  In addition, Hyundai has a stellar 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, a 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty and a 5-year roadside assistance program.

In comparison, the 1.6 Base Versa Sedan comes standard with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 107 horsepower and a five-speed manual transmission.  The Nissan warranties include a 36-month/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

In their 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study, J.D. Power and Associates reported that the Hyundai Accent had the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles in the sub-compact car segment.
