2009 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI

Volkswagen will be offering a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI engine in the Touareg next year. The TDI is expected to return 25 mpg on the highway and go as much as 600 miles on a tank of diesel.

Though the TDI's 221 hp sounds a bit weak for such a heavy vehicle, the 407 lb-ft of torque should provide plenty of thrust at low speeds. Just like the Jetta TDI, the Touareg TDI is emissions compliant in all 50 states and uses the latest in turbocharging and emissions technology to provide an excellent balance of power and fuel economy.

If the standard 2009 Volkswagen Touareg TDI isn't exciting enough, check out the Touareg TDI Trophy Truck. The trophy truck will compete in this year's Baja 1000 and come equipped with 37-inch BFG tires, a 5.5-liter V-12 diesel engine, and a suspension system that allows 25 inches of wheel travel up front and 30 inches of wheel travel at the rear axle.
