The 2009 Honda Fit may be go, but if you'd like to add either more go or show to the subcompact hatchback, you're in luck: Mugen accessories for the Fit will be officially sold through Honda dealers in the U.S.
As the semi-official tuning wing of Honda Motor Company, Mugen's produced some wicked performance parts for other Honda models - but mostly for those sold in Japan. Mugen's market penetration in the U.S. has been limited, mostly to producing parts to the already-potent Civic Si sedan.
We're glad to see that begin to change, even if only for the Fit. Beginning next spring, buyers can opt for Mugen parts on a piece-by-piece basis. While some - like the aluminum oil filler cap and floor mats - seem frivolous, others, including a short-throw shifter, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a body kit are more substantial.
If nothing else, offering the Mugen accessories allows Honda to target the Fit directly at the Scion range, which presently offers owners a seemingly endless array of aftermarket parts for customization. Expect pricing details on the Mugen Fit range to be announced early next year.
