Say what you will about one-make race series, but they can offer up plenty of enjoyment - need we point out the BMW M1 Procar series or Ferrari's F430 Challenge? We expect no less from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, a nine-race series which will host this beast: the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo.
Though some may dismiss the car as little more than a race-prepped Gallardo, the Super Trofeo is actually based upon the new Gallardo LP 560-4. Predictably, the Super Trofeo spec weighs less (1300 kg) and has more power (570 hp) than its stock counterpart.
From what Lamborghini's revealed about the series, the Super Trofeo races will closely resemble Ferrari's Challenge. 29 cars are available for purchase by, as the company says, "professional and 'gentleman' drivers." An exception lies with the 30th car, which - in a throwback to the BMW Procar days - is reserved for various celebrity guest drivers.
The Super Trofeo competition kicks off on May 3, 2009 at Silverstone, while the final race - held at Monza - is scheduled for October 4.
