Three anticipated 2014 models have commenced production: the 2014 Toyota Corolla, 2014 Toyota Tundra, and 2014 BMW X5.
The 2014 Toyota Corolla will go on sale in September and features an all-new styling direction for the compact sedan. The Toyota Corolla is produced at Toyota’s Blue Springs, Mississippi manufacturing plant and will feature the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine as the outgoing model. However, this engine has been updated, featuring enhanced variable-valve timing technology on the LE Eco model and pairing with new transmissions as well: Although a four-speed automatic still comes on the base L trim, a six-speed manual and a CVT are available on Toyota Corolla LE, S, and LE Eco trims.
The 2014 Toyota Tundra represents a more minor update for Toyota’s full-size truck than the Corolla’s overhaul, as the 2014 model features only an exterior and interior styling refresh. The Toyota Tundra is produced at Toyota’s San Antonio, Texas plant, and for 2014 there is a new 1794 luxury edition, named for the founding year of the San Antonio ranch on which the plant stands. The 2014 Toyota Tundra will go on sale in mid-August.
Produced at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, the BMW X5 is also all-new for 2014. The South Carolina plant produces BMW X3 and X6 models alongside the X5, and has manufactured more than 1.3 million X5s in total since 1999. The 2014 X5 goes on sale later this year and is available with three engine options: a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo six-cylinder with 300 hp, a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8 with 445 hp, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.
