Bit by bit, the full stats on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray have been making their way out to the public. Today’s nugget? Fuel economy – the 2014 Corvette Stingray has achieved an Environmental Protection Agency-estimated rating of 17/29 mpg city highway.
The 2014 Corvette’s fuel economy ratings are pretty respectable for your average car, but are downright impressive given that the 2014 Corvette Stingray is powered by a 455-hp 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine. Not only is the 2014 Corvette Stingray one of the best performance values around, the good EPA rating means that it will potentially save buyers even more money over time. Stacked up against its closest competition, the Corvette handily trumps both V-8- and V-10-powered Audi R8 models, and bests the Porsche 911 Carrera S by two mpg on the highway. The Porsche does, however, manage two more mpg in the city cycle than the Corvette.
Chevrolet also claims than in “Eco” mode, the 2014 Corvette Stingray can actually achieve up to 30 mpg on the highway, while the default “Tour” mode will return 28 mpg. To help further save fuel, Corvettes equipped with the seven-speed manual transmission have Active Fuel Management, which disables four of the eight cylinders during cruising and light throttle. Fuel economy ratings for the 2014 Corvette Stingray with the optional six-speed automatic transmission have not been finalized yet.
When the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale this fall, it will start at $51,995 (including destination) and the convertible – which will begin appearing at dealerships at the end of the year – will start at $56,995 after destination.
