We’ve already seen the new 2013 SRT Viper in all its glory. Heck, we recently saw the first production 2013 Viper fetch a stout $300,000 at auction. But what we haven’t seen are 2013 Vipers painted in hues other than red, black or yellow. Luckily, our spy photographer caught this 2013 Viper GTS test car sporting a handsome shade of blue.
According to press materials, the 2013 Viper will be offered in no fewer than eight paint colors, including black, Bright White, Adrenaline Red, Gunmetal Pearl, Race Yellow, and the luscious Stryker Red tinted pearlcoat used on the car shown at both the 2012 New York Auto Show and the recent Barrett-Jackson auction. Two shades of blue – a so-called Shadow Blue and a GTS Blue Pearl – are also available. Given the hue (which recalls the blue used on the original Viper GTS show car) and sparkle evident in these photos, we’re betting this is the latter.
What’s not shown here are the racing stripes, a feature long featured on Viper coupe models. According to Chrysler’s SRT division, the traditional twin racing stripe – available in black, white, or Gunmetal Pearl, are an optional extra. The same can be said for the carbon fiber rear trim panel shown on the New York show car: in stock form, GTS models receive a gloss black panel as shown here, while base 2013 Vipers make do with a body colored part.
Speaking of trim, our photographer also managed a couple quick shots of this 2013 Viper GTS’ interior. Though it reveals no post-launch surprises, this is one of our first looks at the Viper’s cabin when trimmed solely in black. The original show car instead boasted a red-on-black interior, one of a couple two-tone interiors that will be available.
Despite the blue exterior, the 2013 Viper’s powertrain promises to be red hot. The 8.4-liter V-10 underhood produces 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque, and revs faster than ever, thanks in part to an aluminum flywheel. The 2013 Viper’s chassis is about 100 lbs lighter than before, and boasts a 25-percent increase in torsional rigidity.
