While Hyundai may have taken the wraps off of the 2012 Azera and 2013 Genesis Coupe at the 2011 Los Angeles and 2012 Detroit auto shows, respectively, the company had yet to put a price tag on either of its new cars. Now, we have the numbers: $32,875 including destination will get buyers into the Azera, and $25,125 is all that’s needed for the Genesis Coupe.
All Azeras come with a direct-injected 3.3-liter V-6 engine that makes 293 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque; that power is sent through a six-speed automatic to the front wheels. Now standard are 18-inch alloy wheels; automatic headlights with daytime running lights; front fog lights; LED taillights; chrome exterior trim; and front, front and rear side, side curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. Inside, Azera passengers will be treated to push-button keyless entry, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, Dimension premium sound system, navigation system, backup camera, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system. Both passengers and passers-by alike will be treated to the Azera’s interpretation of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language, with flowing, muscular lines. The base Azera for 2012 now has much more content than the outgoing, top-of-the-line 2011 Azera Limited, despite its price tag swelling only $2005.
Only one option package is available for the 2012 Hyundai Azera: the Technology Package. Though it runs a hefty $4000, it includes goodies such as 19-ich alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, HID xenon headlights, rear sunshades, an Infinity premium sound system, rear parking sensors, and ventilated front seats.
For 2013, the rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe has seen a raft of upgrades. It has a new front fascia with an oversized hexagonal grille, new headlights, revised LED taillights, and an updated interior. Most importantly, the Genesis Coupe sees the addition of direct-injection on the V-6 and a power bump for the turbocharged I-4. Choices remain either a 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 348 hp and 295 lb-ft, or the 2.0-liter turbo-four good for 274 hp and 275 lb-ft; transmission options for both engines are either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.
Prices for the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe start, with destination included, at $25,125 for a six-speed manual 2.0T, an increase from 2012 of $2000; adding the eight-speed auto raises the price tag to $26,375. The sportier 2.0T R-Spec, which comes only with the manual, will now run $27,375; while the more luxurious 2.0T Premium with the auto-only goes for $29,625.
Stepping up to the V-6, the stripped-down 3.8 R-Spec with the six-speed will cost the same money as the 2.0T Premium; however, the sportiest 3.8 Track will run a healthy $33,875 with the manual, or $35,125 with the auto ‘box. Slotting between the R-Spec and the Track is the 3.8 Grand Touring that retails for $32,825, available only with the eight-speed automatic.
The 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will hit dealerships next month; those who want to get their hands on a 2012 Azera will have to wait until April.
