According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo is rated at 20/31 mpg city/highway when fitted with a six-speed manual transmission. No numbers have been provided yet for the six-speed automatic.
The Verano Turbo will pack a punch when it goes on sale later this year. It uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 from the larger Regal sedan, good for 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque in the smaller Verano. While neither the EPA or Buick has yet to speculate on how the automatic-equipped Verano Turbo will fair, but the Regal Turbo slushbox loses two mpg in the city and three mpg on the highway when compared with the manual; expect numbers somewhere around 18/28 mpg for the Verano Turbo automatic.
Stacked up against the competition, the 2013 Verano Turbo is about average in the efficiency competition, but runs away in the power race. The closest competitor, power-wise, is the 2013 Acura ILX 2.4, which only has 201 hp and achieves 22/31 mpg. The only rival that beats the Verano Turbo on both city and highway mpg numbers is the hybrid Lexus CT 200h; however, getting those 43/40 mpg numbers comes at a cost: the CT is rated for just 134 total hp from its 1.8-liter I-4 and electric motor.
Pricing for the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo will be announced closer to the car’s launch, but expect to see a starting price of around $29,500. That would place it some $6000 above the base Verano, yet smack dab in the middle of the ILX, CT, and Audi A3.
