Can’t wait for the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to hit dealers? Your wait is drawing to a close, but new information from the official dealer guide — which recently turned up on the Camaro5.com forum — may whet your appetite for new details on the super Camaro.
We already knew the ZL1 will have a 580-hp, 6.2-liter supercharged V-8-engine similar to the one stuffed in the Cadillac CTS-V . We also know the ZL1 laid down an impressive 7:41.27 lap time around the Nurburgring. Today, we learn that its curb weight is 4120 pounds (weight distribution of 51/49, front/rear), which is almost 300 pounds more than the Camaro SS that sits below it. That’s a bit portly — by our records, the ZL1 is almost 270 pounds heavier than a Camaro SS with a manual transmission, and 300 pounds heavier than its nearest competitor: the 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 coupe.
The forum also revealed a rough list of color choices and standard and optional equipment. It appears the ZL1 will share the SS’s color palate, with the addition of an exclusive Crystal Red tintcoat hue . Standard wheels are 20-inch, forged-aluminum wheels finished in low-gloss black, while a five-spoke design is optional. An exposed carbon fiber hood air extractor appears to be standard. Also standard are a long list of niceties, like a premium Boston Acoustics sound system, power adjustable seats, and a rear back-up camera.
Official pricing should be announced in mid-November, though the expected production run and dealer allocation is still unclear. We’ll be sure to update you with more details, but in the meantime, check out the current dealer guide for the ZL1 here.
