Perspective is everything, isn’t it?
Yesterday, the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 joined the ranks of the Mercedes-Benz R350 Bluetec and Volkswagen Jetta TDI as automobiles that qualify for the Alternative Motor Vehicle tax credit.
The cost savings on the 2009 model year of the former two: $1550 and $1300, respectively, for savings of roughly 2.9 and 5.6 percent.
And on the Bimmer? A $900 reduction, or — make sure you have your calculator handy — a savings of 0.9 percent.
As fans of the ActiveHybrid 7, we applaud the use of hybrid technology to improve fuel economy and performance. The $900 should come in handy to defray the cost of the optional power-operated rear-seat sunshades.
