Audi is bringing its new 2011 A8 luxury sedan to the States soon and it will come with the option of a factory-installed wireless hotspot, perfect for those passengers always in need of the Internet.
The upcoming A8 uses an integrated WLAN module to connect to the Web via UMTS, allowing up to eight connections. The WPA2 encryption protocol secures the connection and owners need only to insert a data-capable SIM card into the A8′s Bluetooth system. Owners with mobile data plans may also sync their Bluetooth-capable phones with a SIM Access Profile.
Unlike Chrysler’s Uconnect mobile Web system, the A8 connects to the Internet through its low-profile rooftop antenna. The Chrysler vehicles need an actual router installed.
