Finalists for the 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year have been announced. Forty-nine of the industry’s most respected and tenured journalists have narrowed down the top three vehicles in each category.
On the car side, the finalists include the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid (an Automobile All-Star), and the 2010 Volkswagen Golf and GTI (the latter being our Automobile of the Year). Finalists for the 2010 North American Truck of the Year include the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, 2010 Ford Transit Connect, and the 2010 Subaru Outback.
For a vehicle to be eligible for the prestigious award, it must be completely new or substantially changed for the 2010 model year. Originally, 50 vehicles were eligible for the award, but the list was whittled to 16 when all the jurors met and drove the candidates in October.
Expect winners to be announced on January 11, the first press day of the 2010 Detroit auto show.
