2010 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and S65 AMG Models Revealed
So far Mercedes-Benz revealed the 2010 S400 hybrid, S550, and S600 sedans, but has kept the mighty AMG models under wraps. Although, these high performance versions of the company’s restyled flagship were due to be revealed at the Shanghai auto show later this month, images of the S63 AMG and S65 AMG have snuck on to the Mercedes-Benz consumer site.
German customers wanting to configure their own 2010 S-class were probably surprised to have the option of outfitting the yet-to-be-shown AMG models. Whether or not Mercedes meant to offer this option is unknown, but nevertheless, here they are.
From the pictures we see the AMGs receive a new front fascia to allow plenty of air to reach their high-power engines under the hood. Both models keep the same LED fog lights above the outer air intakes and the S63 AMG wears the same front grille as the S550 and S400 hybrid. In the rear, both the S63 AMG and S65 AMG sport quad tailpipes with the S65 AMG’s pipes appearing a little bit larger. The S65 AMG is also distinguished by a slightly different grille matching the one on the S600.
Powertrains for the two models will remain the same as prior years. The S63 AMG packs a 6.2-liter V-8 engine making 518 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. As the top of the line model, the S65 AMG is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 that churns out 604-hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.
The site also listed European pricing for cars. The S63 will start at 144.823,00 Euro, but we expect the U.S. version to come in around $135,000. The S65 AMG will command a base price of 221,221 Euro, however the U.S. version is likely to start around $207,000. More information about the AMG models will be available during their official debut at the Shanghai auto show later this month.
