When the Lincoln MKT concept was shown at the 2008 Detroit auto show, it elicited a love it/ hate it reaction from its audiences.; Those who find themselves in the first camp can rejoice, as Ford confirmed the luxury crossover will make its way into production for 2009.
At this point, we don’t have any visuals of the 2010 MKT – that’ll be reserved for its introduction at the 2009 Detroit auto show in January.; Although we hear the production crossover gains a third row of seating (the concept seated only four), the majority of the MKT’s styling may stay relatively untouched.; The Ford PR folks haven’t let production images slip as of yet, but their release indicates the release indicates the MKT will use the same front fascia, strong beltline and “significant C-pillar” as the concept.
Those cues didn’t necessarily win favors from all who viewed the concept, but they do help differentiate the vehicle from the 2009 Ford Flex, with which the MKT shares its underpinnings.; The base engine for the Lincoln will be the same 3.5-liter V-6 found in the Flex, although an ‘EcoBoost’ 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 (also slated for the MKS and Flex, among others) will eventually become an option.; Like the Flex, expect the MKT to use a six-speed automatic transmission in either front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
