While we can’t tell you everything about the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox yet, we can tell you what will be under the hood. The next generation crossover will feature more efficient I-4 and V-6 engines – both with direct injection.
The base Equinox will come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes180 horsepower. With that engine, GM is predicting the crossover will get 30 mpg on the highway. If that figure holds in EPA testing, it will be a twenty percent improvement of compared to the 2009 model (which is only available as a V-6), which musters 24 mpg on the highway.
The optional engine will be a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 255 hp. It will be a considerable upgrade from the outgoing Chinese-built 3.4-liter V-6, which makes only 185 hp. We’ve yet to hear fuel economy estimates for this engine, but the advent of direct injection may yield a small improvement.
Full details on the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox will be available when it debuts at the 2009 Detroit auto show in January.
