2010 Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet Delayed
If you’ve been waiting for the drop-top version of Audi’s A5/S5, you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer than expected, as the German automaker is holding off on bringing its A4/S4 cabriolet replacement to the U.S. until it gets rid of its current A4/S4 Cabriolet inventory first.
“We are now being conservative in making sure we sell enough of the final A4 and S4 Cabriolet models in today’s auto market,” Audi of America spokesman Christian Bokich told Inside Line on Monday. Audi originally wanted to release the A5/S5 in the U.S. at the end of September.
The A5/S5 Cabriolets will debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto show, and will go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2009, starting at the equivalent of about $47,600. U.S. buyers will have to wait until late fall to purchase the A4/S4 cabriolet replacements, and pricing has not been announced.
“But in the past, A4 Cabriolet models have always been about $10,000 more expensive tan their A4 sedan counterpart,” Bokich said regarding pricing. “An A4 Cabriolet 2.0T costs about $41K, A4 3.2 Cabriolet costs about $49K, and S4 Cabriolet start at around $57K. These are typical price steps between cylinder and equipment levels. We expect to remain in line with our German luxury competitors in the full four-seater cabriolet segment in both pricing and equipment levels.”
Check back next week during the Geneva auto show for more information about the A5/S5 cabriolet.
